Music Scholarship Opportunities!

This section of our website is to help encourage people who have started down a musical path stay on it! 


The idea behind applying for scholarships is apply apply apply! A few well written essays can turn themselves into tens of thousands of dollars! The cost of college education is sky high. It's crazy not to apply for this additional funding. Ok you'll have to write some essays maybe alot of essays but if the time is taken out now to apply for these scholarships you won't have to worry about being in so much debt later! Ten $1,000 scholarships awarded in two categories:

  • Five $1,000 scholarships to students in grades four to eight
  • Five $1,000 scholarships to students in grades nine through 12

Merchandise prizes contributed by Alfred Music Publishing, Sabian Ltd, Woodwind & Brasswind


For 29 years, the American Songwriter Amateur Lyric Contest has helped thousands of songwriters become involved in our community. Established in 1984, American Songwriter Magazine sponsors six (6) contests per year that run in conjunction with each issue published. Entrants should send lyric sheet only.                                                       .


2014 will be the fourth year of the Hal Leonard Vocal Competition, the innovative online competition for singers. This is the only vocal competition for all of North America aimed at young singers, ages 23 and under, and one of the first legitimate competitions for music students held entirely online. This competition if for singers under the age of 23. The deadline is 2/1/2014. POST 10/1/13The Yamaha Young Performing Artists Program (YYPA) recognizes outstanding young musicians from the world of classical, jazz and contemporary music. Winners of this competition will be invited to attend an all expense paid weekend awards ceremony at the Music for All™ Summer Symposium, receive a once in a lifetime performance opportunity in front of thousands, national press coverage, receive a recording and photos of the live performance, and participate in workshops designed to launch a professional music career. The IMEA sponsors and organizes performance festival experiences for the student musicians of Illinois. The IMEA provides professional growth opportunities for the music educators of Illinois. The IMEA remains current regarding emerging issues in the music profession and disseminates that information to the music education community. Loyola University is right down the block from Flatts and Sharpe. If you have not checked out any of the great performing arts programs there you should! Many of Flatts and Sharpe's customers are attending or planning on attending Loyola University. If your plans are to major or minor in music you might want to follow up on this opportunity. 

Composer Helmuth H. Fuchs earned his Bachelor's degree from Loyola University of Chicago in 1962. Just an FYI, I'm not necessarily finding the current application for these scholarships. I'm simply searching for scholarship and grant links for our customers to research and find out when to apply. One thing I know for sure is that the earlier you apply the better your chance of receiving funds! The deadline for this scholarship  is 12/31/2012 So get started!!!

Named after former NAMM Executive Vice President William R. Gard, the Gard Scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time student at an accredited four-year university who works at least 400 hours a year for a NAMM Member company. The $2,000 scholarship is designed to invest in the education of promising students interested in contributing their talents to the music products industry and to help provide NAMM Members with well-trained job applicants. The Gard Scholarship grant is renewable for up to three academic years. The application deadline is May 1, 2010.
