Flatts & Sharpe has a full service repair shop. Our repair guru is Ben Huenecke, a soon-to-be well-known repair tech here in Chicago. Besides being talented, unlike other techs he is also actually friendly. He can talk the talk with an experienced guitar geek and also walk a beginner through unfamiliar territory.  Ben's tech skills are not limited to just the guitar. He can tackle all the electronic gear associated with music as well as any stringed instrument. If you would like to talk with him, Ben is here twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 5:00.  You can always drop your instrument off any day of the week and we can give you an estimate. Ben is also enrolled in violin making school—all violin repair prices are set on a consultation basis only.

Prices depend generally on the skill and time taken for a repair.  Here’s a list of sample prices.  Note, of course, that these prices may vary depending on a case’s particulars. The turn-around time on repairs depends of course on the problem, but minor adjustments and set ups can be done in one or two business days. If parts are necessary, it may increase the time for the repair.  We will always notify you if there will be a delay.

*For general diagnosis of mystery problems, custom part installation or custom wiring, and other general repair service, we charge $40 per hour, billed in 15-minute increments.
*Set-ups are $25, plus the price of the new strings you would like us to use. 
*An input jack installation starts at $15. Basic soldering costs $10.
*Installing a pickup on an electric guitar costs $25.  Installing a pickup on an acoustic guitar costs $75, price also includes a set-up.
*A partial refretting costs $150.  A complete refretting costs $250.
*Amp retubing is available for $10.
*A neck reset varies between $150 and $300, depending on the extent of the damage.
*Nut/saddle replacement varies between $10 and $40.
*These prices do not include the price of parts!
*And, as always, attitude adjustments are on the house.
