Cathie Lowmiller

Cathie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Arizona State University and a
Master of Music (performance major) from Northern Arizona University. Although
she is classically trained, she loves all musical styles and genres. She also loves
teaching and performing and has years of experience as
– Classroom orchestra teacher, Dallas Independent School District
– Classroom orchestra teacher with Chandler, Arizona public schools
– Children’s bluegrass fiddle coach with Jam Pak bluegrass band, Chandler
– Founding member and fiddler with The Black Velvet Band, Tempe, Arizona
– Private violin and viola instructor with the Veksler Academy of Music and
Dance, Sunnyvale, California
– Concertmaster, Tempe Symphony Orchestra, Tempe, Arizona
– Concertmaster, Lyric Theater of San Jose, San Jose California
Cathie believes in giving young string players a strong technical foundation, while
at the same time instilling understanding and enjoyment of music from the very
beginning. Like her role model, Dorothy DeLay of the Julliard School, Cathie
believes that young musicians learn best when they are having fun.
